Buying Sindy Items

I buy my Sindy items from three main sources. I win most items at auction on www.ebay.com. When bidding on items please keep in mind the following:

  • Always check the seller's feedback rating. Most sellers are fine, honest people but there are a few bad apples.
  • If the listing doesn't include this information, ask the seller about payment terms (check? credit card? money order?) and shipping costs before bidding.
  • If the listing doesn't include a picture, email the seller and ask for one. Many sellers know less about Sindy items than do potential buyers, so the item description may not be accurate. For instance, it's not uncommon for a seller to describe a Sindy as being from the 60s when in fact she is an 80s model.

I sometimes buy rarer or particularly desirable items from UK toy dealers. My favorite dealers are:

  • The Magic Toybox: a wonderful store run by Sally and Colin. They have a huge Sindy inventory.
  • Teenage Dream: Louise has a smaller (but still lovely!) Sindy inventory.

Dealer prices are much higher than you might find on eBay, but when you buy from them you can be completely confident about the quality of the item.

Current model dolls by Vivid Imaginations can be bought online from The Fashion Doll Specialists.

Selling Sindy Items

www.ebay.com offers a convenient way to sell items. Here are some hints to keep in mind when putting items up for auction:

  • Use eBay's search page to look for completed auctions for items similar to yours. This will give you an idea of the fair value of your items. Please don't ask me to appraise your items. The value of Sindy items depends on so many things (eg. rarity, condition of item and original packaging) that I would not be able to give an accurate answer.
  • Include a picture of the item when you put it up for auction. A picture is worth a thousand words describing the item. Items which include pictures are more likely to attract bids and sell for more than items without pictures.
  • Work out where you are willing to ship the items and how much shipping will cost. If you are in the UK, make sure you know what the shipping cost to the US would be, and vice versa.
  • Work out what forms of payment you will accept. If you are a new seller and don't have a feedback rating on eBay, then buyers won't know whether they can trust you and may be less likely to bid if you will only accept money orders or certified checks. Check out payment services such as PayPal, which allow the buyer to use a credit card.
